Stow on the Wold extensive lime works
The property had a mixture of different mortars as it had been sporadically maintained over hundreds of years.
I stripped out all of the old mortar which was a mixture of many years of additions and used hot mixed mortar.
This consists of quicklime which is what was used originally on all period properties build in oxfordshire.
Once in the presence of moisture, quicklime will heat up to 100 degrees and expand. It's the most workable, flexible, porous and sticky mortar available and it's the best choice.
Oxford rear elevation repointed with lime putty. All th cills were replaced and unsightly builder bodges were addressed.
