Current project

Mill Farm, Low Mill, North Yorkshire Moors, Grade 11 listed building. Comprising part of the Farndale estate, this was a full renovation involving extensive internal and external lime mortar repointing. All mortars and plasters were hot-mixed using quicklime, horsehair and local sands.

Only 35 minutes from the north east coast, this old post office has been extensively renovated with hot-mixed insulating plaster consisting of local sands, hemp, pummice and perlite.

The end result is an exclusive Yorkshire hideaway situated in a glacial valley with dramatic scenery.

All the downstairs floors were replaced with limecrete. This is a system which involves laying down GEOCELL foam glass aggregate.

The next step is to lay under-floor heating, if required.

Once the underfloor central heating is in, the next stage is to lay down an NHL limecrete lab.

The stone slabs are then fixed into position using a breathable adhesive and grout

The bathrooms were all thermally insulted using Steico wood-fibre boards

All walls and ceilings were decorated with vapour permeable paints.

All hemp lime, perlite and pummice plastering render was laid on approximately 50mm thick to provide insulation.

It was a pleasure to work with Nigel Copsey during the mortar design process: https://www.hotmixedmortars.com/documents.html
